  • Yes! Here is the information and process to apply for a Southern Lights Scholarship

    Purpose

Southern Lights is committed to building a conference community that reflects the breadth, diversity, and future of progressive Christianity. We believe that meaningful conversations about faith, justice, compassion, and courage should be accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances.

To help make participation possible for those who might otherwise be unable to attend, Southern Lights offers a limited number of registration scholarships. These scholarships are intended to remove financial barriers while also helping us welcome younger adults, people of color, and others whose voices and experiences enrich our shared learning and community.

    Scholarship Categories

    Emerging Voices Scholarships
For young adults ages 18–35 who are beginning to shape their vocations, ministries, and communities, and who would benefit from financial assistance in order to attend.

    Beloved Community Scholarships
For people of color whose financial circumstances would otherwise make participation difficult.

    Access Scholarships
For adults experiencing financial hardship that would prevent them from attending without assistance.

    What the Scholarship Covers

A Southern Lights Scholarship provides a full waiver of the conference registration fee.

Scholarships do not cover lodging, meals, transportation, or other expenses associated with attending the conference. Applicants should carefully consider these additional costs before applying.

    Application Instructions

Please complete all required sections of the application. The Scholarship Committee reviews applications using several factors, including:

    • Demonstrated financial need

    • Thoughtful engagement with the mission and themes of Southern Lights

    • The potential impact participation may have on the applicant and their community

    • Our commitment to fostering a diverse, vibrant, and intergenerational gathering

Scholarship applications will be accepted through December 15, 2026. All applicants will be notified of scholarship decisions by December 31, 2026.

  • Need to Change Your Plans?
We understand that life happens! While we’re not able to offer refunds, you won’t miss out—if you register for the live event but can’t attend, you’ll still receive full access to all main sessions through our On-Demand streaming from February 1 to April 30, 2027.

Prefer to join us in person another time? We’re happy to transfer your registration to our 2028 event instead. Just let us know what works best for you!

Please Note: No ticket changes or transfers are allowed after December 15th.

Transportation

  • If you’re flying in for the conference, getting to beautiful St. Simons Island is easy and scenic! You have two great airport options: Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) in Florida and Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) in Georgia. Both airports are about an hour’s drive from Epworth By the Sea.

For the most flight options and flexibility, we recommend flying into Jacksonville—it typically offers more airlines and routes to choose from.

From either airport, you’ll need to rent a car or use a ride-share service to reach the island. The drive is a lovely one, offering a taste of the southern charm and natural beauty you’ll find waiting for you at Epworth.

We can’t wait to welcome you to St. Simons!

  • For those looking for an even closer arrival point, there’s also the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport (BQK), located just about 30 minutes from Epworth by the Sea. It’s a smaller airport serviced exclusively by Delta Airlines, with all flights connecting through Atlanta. Once you arrive, you’ll find convenient access to rental cars, taxis, and ride-sharing services to get you to the conference grounds with ease.

Please note: While there is an airport right on St. Simons Island—McKinnon St. Simons Island Airport (SSI)—it only accommodates private planes and does not offer commercial flights.

  • While we aren’t able to provide transportation from the airport to Epworth, getting here is still easy and convenient. Both Jacksonville and Savannah airports offer plenty of transportation options, including taxis, car services, and ride-sharing apps like Uber and Lyft—so you can choose what works best for you. Of course, renting a car is also a great option if you’d like to explore more of the island during your stay.

  • Yes, You Can Drive!
If you’re planning to drive to St. Simons Island, it’s easy to check your route and travel time using Google Maps ⟶.

Once you arrive, you’ll find plenty of free parking available right on the Epworth conference grounds—no need to worry about finding a spot!

Lodging & Housing

  • Once you have registered, you will receive a link to reserve housing on the Epworth by the Sea grounds. If on-campus housing is full, you may contact Tiffany Lamb at (912) 638-8688 or tlamb@epworthbythesea.org to be added to the waiting list.

You can also explore off-campus lodging options under “What Are My Other Options?” below. Guests staying off campus are still welcome to purchase a meal package through “Meals & Dining.”

  • Yes! You will need the Eventbrite ticket order number you receive via email when you register to secure your Epworth housing.

  • There are plenty of great places to stay on St. Simons Island!

This year, we’re partnering with Home2Suites, conveniently located near Epworth by the Sea. They’re offering a discounted rate exclusively for Southern Lights guests. Just click HERE to book directly through our group page.

Two additional hotels that are convinently located to Epworth’s Conference Center are: Best Western Plus, and Holiday Inn Express. You can book directly through their websites, or use Trivago or your favorite travel app.

Looking for something a little more cozy or unique? You’ll also find great options on Airbnb  and Vrbo.

Please note: If you stay off-site, you’ll need a car, taxi, or rideshare service to travel to and from the Conference Center.

We can’t wait to see you on the island!

Meals & Dining

  • Please note that meals and housing are not included in your conference registration.

If you've booked your accommodations directly through Epworth, your meals are included as part of your stay. The meal package begins with dinner on Friday (1/22) and wraps up with lunch on Sunday (1/24).

If you’ve chosen to stay off-site, meals will not be provided—so be sure to plan accordingly. We’re looking forward to a wonderful weekend together, however you choose to stay!

  • Yes! Meal packages are available for those not staying on-site at Epworth. The package includes Friday dinner, Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday lunch—perfect for enjoying the full conference experience without having to worry about where to eat.

Please note that the meal package is offered as a complete bundle and cannot be customized.
